BNY Mellon Awarded 2019 Hong Kong LGBT+ Inclusion Index’s Gold Standard

BNY Mellon was awarded a Gold Standard in the Community Business Hong Kong LGBT+ Inclusion Index for its work in creating a supportive and inclusive workplace for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) employees. It is the second consecutive time BNY Mellon has received the Gold Standard, demonstrating the sustained efforts by BNY Mellon to foster an LGBT+ friendly workplace.

The index is produced every two years by Community Business and was the first benchmark on LGBT+ workplace inclusion practices in Asia. The initiative provides organizations in Hong Kong with a credible and robust tool to assess progress and promote their efforts towards greater LGBT+ inclusion. In the inaugural index in 2015, BNY Mellon attained the Bronze Standard.

The 2019 award positions BNY Mellon among the top 12 employers for LGBT+ inclusion in Hong Kong.

“Creating a workplace that is inclusive for all our employees is a priority for BNY Mellon,” said Sammi Cho, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Branch and Asia Pacific Chief Administrative Officer. “One of the ways we do this is through employee resource groups, such as PRISM, a group that aims to promote an open and supportive environment for LGBT+ employees. We are proud to be awarded the Gold Standard again, an acknowledgement of our efforts to support LGBT+ inclusiveness across the business.”

Cho is a recognized champion of LGBT+ rights in the workplace. She was named one of the top 50 LGBT+ Ally Executives on the 2018 Financial Times OUTstanding list.

Earlier this year, BNY Mellon published the PRISM Ally brochure to showcase its journey and continued support for LGBT+ employees, allies and the community.
