Leigh-Ann Russell

Leigh-Ann Russell serves as the Chief Information Officer and Global Head of Engineering. In this role, she oversees a high-performing global team of technologists who are driving the development of cutting-edge digital solutions that enhance client experience, ensure security and resilience, and drive our platforms forward with innovative software, infrastructure, and technologies. She is also a member of the BNY Executive Committee.

Before joining BNY, Leigh-Ann held prominent roles at BP, including membership on BP's Executive Committee, reporting directly to the CEO. As Executive Vice President of Innovation & Engineering at BP, her responsibilities encompassed being the Chief Scientist, Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Digital Officer. She directed BP's clean technology advancements, led the expert engineering organization, managed enterprise IT infrastructure, and oversaw digital engineering, product development, data science, and design teams. Additionally, she served as BP's Chief Risk Officer.

Prior to these roles, Leigh-Ann was BP's Chief Procurement Officer, where she modernized and digitalized BP's supply chain operations and significantly enhanced supply efficiency while reducing costs during the high inflationary period of COVID. Her career has consistently focused on engineering and operations, leading large teams at executive levels.

Leigh-Ann holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Aberdeen, is a chartered engineer, and has earned Fellowships with the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and the Energy Institute. She was also bestowed the honorary title of Professor of Practice by Queen’s University Belfast in 2022.

Leigh-Ann previously served as a non-executive director for Hill & Smith PLC, a FTSE 250 infrastructure company, participating in audit, nomination, and remuneration committees.
