BNY SUPPORTS JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT IRELAND

By BNY

In 2018, BNY began an exciting collaboration with the Irish charity CoderDojo, which is part of the international Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Both the organisations do crucial work to develop coding and technology expertise in young people, empowering them to be the technology leaders of their generation. The organisation's work aligns with BNY’s philanthropic strategy to develop business and technology skills to build the future workforce.

In May 2019, BNY sponsored Coolest Projects International, the world's leading technology fair and competition for young people in Dublin, Ireland. The free-to-attend event invited over one thousand 7-17 year olds to design and share their technology creations. Projects involved robotics, animation, mobile applications, gaming, electronics and advanced programming. The Coolest Projects competition featured a BNY sponsored Mobile Apps category. Entries included applications to aid recycling and reduce littering, others that support children on the autism spectrum, and tools that facilitate day-to-day activities encouraging young people to stay organised.

As a platinum sponsor of the event, BNY also had the chance to showcase its technology creations developed during employee-led programming sessions hosted at our office in Dublin.  By showcasing the company’s technological innovations, serving as competition judges and meeting project participants, BNY employees learned a lot from these aspiring technologists. “Bringing together young people in this way created an environment to harness the excitement around technology, which is important to bridge the digital skills gap produced by continued technological advancements."  said Edel Fay, BNY.

The sponsorship of Coolest Projects International and the wider collaboration with CoderDojo and Raspberry Pi enables BNY employees in Ireland to come together to empower young people to pursue careers in technology and financial services.

“The diversity of talent and ideas at Coolest Projects International was inspiring. I found it incredible to see these young entrepreneurs use the power of technology to solve social issues and help make the world a better place.”
