Celebrating 25 Years in Ireland

Conor Begley, site head at BNY’s offices in Dublin, talks about the company’s growth in Ireland over the last 25 years and the value of building diverse teams.

Celebrating 25 Years in Ireland

BNY celebrates 25 years in Ireland in 2019, having first opened our doors in Dublin in 1994 in one of the first buildings of what would become the Irish Financial Services Centre (IFSC). The industry has grown exponentially and today over 44,000 people* across the country are directly employed in financial services. Ireland is now the fourth largest provider of wholesale financial services in the EU, which is an incredible achievement.

Committed to Talent Development and Diversity

We have over 25 nationalities working across our offices in Dublin, Cork and Wexford and our Irish operations make an important contribution to the success of the organisation globally, both from a revenue perspective and in terms of industry and product expertise.  Empowering talent to perform at their best and grow professionally continues to be fundamental to our success, coupled with a strong culture of diversity and inclusion.

BNY in Ireland is proud to be acknowledged for our diversity and inclusion and we have received awards for initiatives supporting different groups including cross-generational, LGBTQA, women in business and people with disabilities, both as an employer and in the wider community. We also play an active role in forums to help drive progress, for example Carol Andrews, Global Head of Service Directors, BNY, is currently country lead for the 30% Club in Ireland.

Dublin's Technology Focus

Dublin consistently ranks highly in quality of living indexes and our offices are located in the financial district, adjacent to an area becoming known as “silicon docks”, where several of the world’s largest technology companies have established significant operations. This, together with the talent pool of higher education students in Dublin and the surrounding areas, creates a rich ecosystem of academics and companies, both financial and technology. BNY is engaged with many of these groups and increasingly our Dublin office is leading global projects, many with a technology focus, for the wider organisation.

Conor Begley is site head for Dublin and Managing Director in the Tax and Regulatory group of the Global Product Management team.  In his role as site head, Conor assists eight lines of business in Dublin to deliver their strategies while maintaining a strong risk culture, nurturing talent and supporting the company’s charitable efforts through the community partnership programme.
