Our history in Mainland China has been defined by a desire to innovate and drive positive change. In 1994, BNY established a presence in Mainland China and now has offices in Beijing and Shanghai.
By connecting with our global network, which provides services in more than 100 markets, we integrate our wide range of capabilities and solutions including Asset Servicing, Treasury Services, Foreign Exchange and Liquidity Services, Depositary Receipts and Clearance and Collateral Management to help clients conduct business and transact in markets around the world.

Our Milestones
1784
Founded by Alexander Hamilton in 1784, BNY is the oldest bank in the United States and the longest continuously operating company in New York City.
1993
BNY sponsored the first-ever depositary receipt program by a Chinese company.
1994
BNY opened the Shanghai representative office, establishing a presence in Mainland China.
2000
BNY expanded banking operations with the opening of its Shanghai branch.
2003
BNY opened the Beijing representative office, building on its growing business presence in Mainland China.
2007
BNY was the first non-domestic financial institution invited to advise on a Qualified Domestic Institutional Investor (QDII) custody opportunity.
2010
The Beijing branch was established to provide a comprehensive suite of financial services.
2011
BNY obtained a Renminbi license to conduct Renminbi-denominated financial transactions locally.
2018
BNY became the first triparty agent to provide collateral services for securities held through Northbound Stock Connect.
2020
BNY became the first triparty agent to provide collateral services to support Northbound Bond Connect assets.
2024
BNY celebrates 30 years of commitment to excellence and dedication to advancing the future of finance in Mainland China.
