BNY Mellon was named as an index component of the 2019 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). The company is included in both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index.
The DJSI were the first global indices tracking the financial performance of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide and provide an integrated assessment of economic, environmental and social criteria with a strong focus on long-term shareholder value. BNY Mellon was included for demonstrating progress around its current Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillars. This year, BNY Mellon scored in the 87th percentile within its peer group of diversified financial services companies.
One of the most highly regarded global sustainability indices, the DJSI is offered jointly by the S&P Dow Jones Indices and RobecoSAM, a Swiss investment specialist that focuses exclusively on sustainability investing.
“BNY Mellon is proud to be included on the DSJI for the sixth straight year, because it reinforces the priority we place on creating a better future for both our company and for society,” said Bill Daley, Vice Chairman, BNY Mellon. “Responsible business is good business, and we are fiercely committed to Corporate Social Responsibility and responsible investing. We contribute to sustainable growth that protects healthy markets and builds equitable economies, and we act on climate change, spurring new investments for clients and enhancing our own business resiliency. Environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations are becoming pervasive, and we have launched several new responsible investment (RI) strategies and a new analytics capability to help our clients invest responsibly.”
“We congratulate BNY Mellon for being included in the DJSI World and DJSI North America indices,” said Manjit Juz, Head of ESG Ratings, RobecoSAM. “The SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment has again raised the bar in identifying those companies best-positioned to address future sustainability challenges and opportunities. This year – which marks the 20th anniversary of the DJSI – record corporate interest in the SAM CSA reflects the enduring relevance of the DJSI for measuring and advancing ESG practices."
BNY Mellon continues to be committed to creating a sustainable world where people can succeed and economies can thrive. Read more about the company’s sustainability priorities in our most recent CSR Report.
