The Bank of New York Company, Inc. Announces Fourth Quarter Earnings Release Date and Conference Call and Webcast

NEW YORK, N.Y., December 29, 2003 -- The Bank of New York Company, Inc. will release its fourth quarter 2003 earnings results on Wednesday, January 21, 2004, before trading begins on the New York Stock Exchange.  The earnings release will also be available on the Company's website at www.bankofny.com/earnings.

Thomas A. Renyi, chairman and chief executive officer, and Bruce W.
